#1 Starting Out

#1 Starting Out traces Jeff’s career path attending Kent State University in Architecture and Design during the late ’60s, including the 1970 Kent State Killings. He reflects on how the immediate loss of a safe common ground on campus translated into an understanding that architectural spaces profoundly affect our sense of personal well-being and the capacity to fully participate within our community. He describes professional mentors who supported his growth while in the honors program and encouraged his insightful perception, specifically while studying the psychological and social effects of color and light.  With today’s resurgence in LSD research reshaping our current understanding of self, others, and social/ physical spaces, Jeff speaks to his brief interaction while attending Architecture School with respected researchers that influenced his understanding of the psycho-spiritual possibilities of space and form.

#2 The Heart of Community

If the (human-made) environment affects us the way we know it does – then we have a right to participate in its design”

Jeff Oberdorfer discusses what it takes to create authentic community participation, from town plans, traffic calming to building design. Clarifying how active community participation differs from input, Jeff takes listeners through the how-tos of empowering the participatory design process for towns, neighborhoods, and collaborative building projects.

#3 Healthy Homes

Reducing Your Toxic Exposure is the subject of Healthy Homes. Award-winning Deep Green Housing Architect, Advocate, Developer, and Leed Fellow Jeff Oberdorfer focuses on three important areas of the home and how removing and clearing known toxins can improve our health. Whether you own, rent, build or renovate Jeff offers direction for where to source simple solutions and quality products that support healthy non-toxic living.
